30 weeks

We had our doctors appointment with the High Risk OB today. As mentioned earlier they were worried about Baby B's growth and decided to get a Doppler done of his blood flow. Vince and I sat anxiously in the chairs watching the ultra sound tech move her magic wand around my tummy. She started with Baby A (who is now head down and right at my cervix). He is growing just find and is now in the 61% for weight. He is right where he should be. They did the 3D ultrasounds and Baby As hand is right in his left eye. He was just snoozing away during the whole thing. The entire ultra sound was not done in 3D just a few photos. She showed us his heart and how he was sitting. She even showed us that he has hair! He is now weighing 3 lbs 11oz.

After the ultra sound was all done, the doctor asked to speak with us in his office. Vince gripped my hand in preparation. He sat quiet and still the entire conversation. Baby B is now at 3 lbs 2oz. Eventhough that may not seem like a big difference to you and me, it is a huge difference when the babies are this small. He is only in the 15% for his weight. They looked him all over and we got to see the four chambers of his heart again and how his diaphragm is moving to practice breathing (good). Since she did notice the size difference she went ahead and did a Doppler on his umbilical cord to see how well the blood was flowing from the placenta to his body. They did find that his placenta is weak and not pumping blood the way it should, which means he hasn't been getting the nutrients he needs. It's a term called insufficient placenta. They are going to monitor us very closely from now on, or until he starts to grow a ton. We will now be seeing the HighRisk Doctor each week as well as our regular OB and getting 2 non-stress tests done each week. WHEW. Their concern is that since his placenta and blood flow is weak, it could eventually slow and stop all together resulting in a still birth. This is why they are closely monitoring :). Since they have all this awesome technology now, the risk of that decreases with all of the monitoring, but that could mean that if at any time in the next weeks this situation gets worse and he is really not getting enough blood flow, then they would weigh the option to deliver early so that he would get a fighting chance in the NICU. On the bright side, Baby B turned and is also head down now and they both need to stay that way.

That is the update for now, I will update as things arise.
